What are eyelash extensions?
Eyelash
extensions are an exciting new way to extend the length and thickness of your
eyelashes. They are applied on a hair-by-hair basis to your own eyelashes for a
completely natural look.

How long will eyelash extensions last?
Touch-ups are recommended
every 3 weeks after
initial full set application to replace any eyelashes that may have fallen out.
How long your eyelash extensions will last really depends on two things - how
well you follow the after care instructions (see left sidebar), and your own
natural eyelash growth cycle. Learn more...
Are eyelash extensions safe?
Yes,
absolutely! Eyelash extensions are completely safe and painless. There is no
waxing or plucking required. Dr. Lin uses the patented NovaLash™ adhesive, the
only eyelash extension product that is U.S. Pharmaceutical (USP) Grade tested
and doctor formulated for safety. This formaldehyde-free adhesive is formulated
from many of the same products that are included in the new medical suture-less
wound closure technology.
Will the eyelash extension procedure hurt?
No, not at all! The procedure is completely safe and painless. There is no
waxing or plucking required. Neither the eyelash extensions nor the adhesive
ever touches your skin.
Are eyelash extensions the right thing for me?
Almost anyone can enjoy eyelash extensions, but if one or more of the
following conditions applies to you, you may not be a good candidate for eyelash
extensions.
- You rub your eyes frequently. If you
rub your eyes frequently due to allergies such as hay fever, or if rubbing
your eyes is just a habit, you may not be able to wear eyelash extensions.
- You have highly sensitive skin. If
you experience irritation around the eye area after using skin care or
makeup, eyelash extensions may not suit you.
- You are sick or have allergies. If
you have a cold, sinus or allergy infection, please do not get eyelash
extensions! They will not last a long time due to irritation and secretions
from the eye area.
- Your natural eyelashes are very curly.
If your natural eyelashes are very curly you are definitely not a good
candidate for eyelash extensions! Curly eyelashes tend to shorten the
eyelash extension wear time. Generally with curly eyelashes, extensions may
only last up to three days before they start to lift.
- You have no natural eyelashes. A
person who does not have any natural eyelashes cannot wear eyelash
extensions because there is no where to place them. Eyelash extensions must
be placed on the natural eyelash and not directly on the skin. Consider
using a strip eyelash instead.
The rule of thumb to enjoy and properly maintain eyelash extensions is,
"The Less You Touch Them, The Longer They Will Last!" It is also important
to keep the eye area very clean and to not apply eye liner, eye shadow, or any
eye makeup too close to the eyelash area.
How long will the eyelash extension procedure take?
The
procedure usually takes about two hours to complete because the extensions are
applied one eyelash at a time. Be sure to set aside at least two hours for your
appointment. Dr. Lin will apply the extensions one eyelash at a time, and there
is no rush for your beautiful results!
Can I wear mascara with my eyelash extensions?
One of the benefits of eyelash extensions is that your eyelashes will look so
long, beautiful, and dark you won't need to use mascara any more! Even supermodel
Cheryl Tiegs is looking forward to life without mascara now that she has eyelash
extensions. However, if you still want to wear mascara Dr. Lin recommends NovaLash™
Mascara because it is the only safe mascara for eyelash
extension lashes. NovaLash™ Mascara is glycol and carbonate-free so it
will not break the bonds formed between your natural eyelashes and your
extensions. But still apply it to the eyelash tips only - do not apply mascara
near the base of the eyelash. Also, do not use waterproof mascara sold
on the market because it will dissolve the bonds with your eyelashes.
Water soluble mascara is OK, but constant use of mascara may shorten the
lifespan of your eyelash extensions. Ask Dr. Lin about NovaLash's
specially formulated mascara and eye makeup remover. These products contain no
solvents and will ensure that your eyelash extensions last as long as possible.
